As an attorney practicing law in Southern California for nearly 35 years, I have represented many clients who were the undeserved victims of police brutality:
- a client who suffered a gunshot wound to his chest for simply exiting a car at a traffic stop;
- a client who survived a barrage of bullets (over 50 rounds into his apartment) fired by law enforcement, and lived to tell about it;
- clients who have suffered the loss of large chunks of flesh from their bodies at the mouths of police K-9’s;
- clients who were so badly beaten by law enforcement officers at the time of arrest, their faces were unrecognizable in their mugshots;
- clients who, while in protective custody, were savagely beaten by other “supervised” inmates, all under the watchful eye of correctional officers; and
- female clients who were raped by correctional officers and arresting officers.
I have found law enforcement to be unreliable historians of their own misconduct and I have seen the shameless white-washing of incidents of police misconduct by Internal Affairs amounting to systemic tolerance of their bad apples.
I have spent my career trying cases before juries, cross-examining deputies and officers from nearly every law enforcement agency in Southern California. I know how law enforcement personnel are trained, what they do, what their policy manuals forbid, and what the United States Constitution abhors as unconstitutional police brutality amounting to a violation of one’s civil rights.
I have handled thousands of cases and I know police misconduct when I see it.
While police misconduct occurs everywhere, it is surprisingly pervasive in parts of Southern California. It has been publicized that Riverside County alone paid $77 million between 2010 to 2020 to settle lawsuits over police misconduct, including $63 million for excessive force cases and $12 million for false arrests. Indeed, some Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies have had multiple lawsuits filed against them for which the County of Riverside has paid multi-million dollar settlements.
And why the large settlements? Because police misconduct, indeed… brutality, in a civilized society is repugnant. Upon that, everyone agrees.
You may be a victim of police misconduct and suffered a denial of your Due Process rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Your 4th amendment right against unreasonable seizure of your person may have been violated. You may have a Civil Rights claim, commonly called a Section 1983 lawsuit (a claim against the government to seek damages). You may have suffered grievous injuries by police misconduct because you were profiled/discriminated against, as a person of color.
Whatever the case, injured persons may be able to recover losses and damages caused by police misconduct.
How to Choose the Right Lawyer for Your Case
When choosing your attorney, ALWAYS hire the best attorney you can find who possesses the following:
- Proven and VERIFIABLE trial skills;
- An attorney who knows how to win, and does;
- An attorney with great client reviews;
- A reputable attorney (word-of-mouth);
- An attorney seasoned by experience; and
- An attorney who listens to you.
I have proven and verifiable trial skills. I have tried well-over 100 jury trials to verdict, and I have published many of my wins on my website with case numbers for you to verify.
I have had great success in trial. I know what it takes to persuade a jury and judge to do what is right in my client’s best interest.
I have published many of my client reviews.
I enjoy a solid and respected reputation with my colleagues in the legal community.
I am seasoned by my nearly 4 decades of legal experience and trial advocacy.
I have learned the way to reach the best result for my client occurs when I listen to his or her story, understand it and feel it. I believe an attorney must fully listen to a client to appreciate the scope of the injustice befallen the client. To not do so, the attorney is incapable of convincing others that an injustice occurred. Your case requires an attorney who knows police misconduct when they see it, and who can effectively advocate against it so that others, be it judge or jury, also are made to see it and are compelled to take steps to remedy it. I am that attorney.
